Here are my notes from our summer retreat... they are incomplete... but still..

My lesson plan brainstorm:
- start with my ecological and carbon footprint web quest
  1. A great beginning/introductory video: The Carbon Crisis in 90 seconds: VIDEO!
  2. This would be good for a web quest... gets into deeper knowledge NASA Climate Change: Evidence
  3. CO2 Emissions over time and space
    1. Check out this graph of CO2 emissions since 1880.
    2. Concentration is defined as how much mass of a given substance (here we'll be talking about CO2) to a given volume of space (Earth's troposphere.) Now, check out this interactive of how atmospheric CO2 concentrations have changed between 2003 and 2009.
    3. Let's move from thinking globally to inquiring locally...Regional-specific map showing CO2 emission levels by county! They say that they've used NASA data: US 2002 CO2 Emissions from Fossil fuels By Count

Videos and Resources I love and/or want to spend more time with:
  1. Windows to the Universe... has an ESL component and is good for low level students
  2. How do we become completed independent from fossil fuels in 40 years? Check out this TED talk by Amory Lovins: A 40 year plan for Energy>
  3. I would LOVE help with making this more engaging... since it's such a crucial topic in our transition to a renewable-energy dominant future.
  4. This is SO SCARY!!!! The impact of India's AC units on Climate Change...
  5. Polar Bear International... check out the Tundra Connections section
  6. Our World GIS Education, Mapping Our World - books come with a free copy of ArcGIS.
  7. American Forests CityGreen - a GIS software tool that helps people understand the value of trees to the local environment.
